What it's used for

This set is designed for sculptors, special effects modelmakers, ceramicists and artists working with malleable materials. The different tips and profiles allow you to tackle both volume-building phases and fine detail work.

  • Modelling and sculpting with Sio-2 PLUS clay or Sio-2 Argila clay
  • Detail work in Super Sculpey and polymer clays
  • Sculpting and refinement in Monster Clay and professional-grade clays
  • Texturing and marking surfaces before mould-making
  • Smoothing and finishing surfaces prior to casting in silicone or resin
  • Creating prototypes, figures, busts and scale models
  • Sculpting for special effects and character work
  • Restoration and repair work with putties such as Epoxy Putty 610

How to use

  1. Select the appropriate tool for the task: fine tips for detail work, flat spatulas for smoothing, loop tools for removing material.
  2. If working with oil-based clays, warm the material slightly (with your hands or gentle heat) to improve workability before sculpting.
  3. For natural clays such as Sio-2, keep the material damp throughout the process to ease working and prevent cracking.
  4. Work in layers: build up the overall volume before moving on to details. Use the larger-surface tools in the early stages.
  5. In the detail phase, use the finest tips and apply controlled pressure to avoid distorting areas already worked.
  6. Clean each tool after use with a soft cloth or, if needed, with isopropyl alcohol to remove any material residue.
  7. Store the set in the protective case to prevent tip damage and keep the studio organised.

Usage tips

Cleaning and maintenance

Sculpting tools accumulate material residue between sessions. Always clean before storing: for natural clays, water and a cloth are sufficient; for oil-based clays or polymer putties, 99.9% isopropyl alcohol dissolves residue without damaging metal or wood. Avoid soaking wooden handles in water for extended periods.

Which tool to use and when

Loop and wire tools are ideal for removing material and creating recesses. Flat and rounded spatulas allow you to smooth and blend surfaces. Needles and styluses are best for marking fine lines, wrinkles, pores or textures. For surfaces that will later be moulded in silicone, thorough smoothing beforehand reduces finishing work on the final piece.

Compatibility with the mould-making process

If your sculpture is going to serve as a master for a platinum silicone mould, make sure the material used contains no sulphur or inhibiting compounds. Many conventional oil-based clays can inhibit the cure of platinum silicone. Monster Clay is a safe choice for this workflow. Frequently asked questions

What types of materials are these tools designed for?

They are general-purpose tools for soft or malleable materials: natural clays, polymer clays, professional clays and putties. This set covers work with materials such as Super Sculpey, Monster Clay, Sio-2 clays or any mouldable putty before hardening or firing.

Are they suitable for beginners or only for professionals?

The set is suitable for both hobbyists starting out and professional modelmakers and special effects artists. The variety of 11 tools allows you to progress as you gain experience, without needing to purchase additional sets in the early stages.

How should these tools be cleaned properly?

For natural clays, water and a cloth are sufficient. For oil-based clays and polymer putties, 99.9% isopropyl alcohol removes residue effectively without damaging the tools. Dry them thoroughly before storing in the case.

Can I use these tools with liquid resins or silicones?

The tools are designed for materials in a solid or paste state, not for liquids. For mixing resins or silicones, dedicated mixing spatulas are recommended. These tools are useful for working the clay or putty piece that will serve as a master before making the mould.

Does the protective case allow safe transport of the set?

Yes, the case keeps the tools organised, protects the tips from damage and makes it easy to transport to the studio, class or film set. It is especially useful for professionals working across different locations.

Do I need to treat the tools in any way before first use?

No prior treatment is necessary. Simply give them an initial wipe with a clean cloth to remove any manufacturing or storage residue, and the set will be ready to use.
