What it is used for
Fine Primer Grey is a universal primer designed to prepare any piece before applying colour. Its neutral grey tone makes it an ideal balanced base for both light and dark colours, and its lacquer formula guarantees superior adhesion for subsequent layers. Use it on:
- Scale plastic models: military vehicles, aircraft, ships and cars
- White metal or resin miniatures for wargames (Warhammer and similar)
- 3D-printed parts before painting with acrylics or enamels
- Figures and dioramas where a neutral grey base is needed to reveal imperfections
- Cosplay projects with foam, plastic or metal parts
- SFX effects and props that require a durable primer base
- Large surfaces where spray speeds up the preparation process
How to use it
- Prepare the surface: clean the piece thoroughly, removing dust, grease and any release agent residue. On metal, sand lightly to improve adhesion.
- Shake the can: shake the spray vigorously for at least one minute before use to achieve a homogeneous mixture.
- Choose the nozzle: attach the fine nozzle for detail work or the standard nozzle to cover larger surfaces.
- Apply in thin coats: spray from approximately 20–25 cm away, using smooth, continuous movements. Several thin coats are preferable to a single thick coat.
- Allow to dry: the synthetic lacquer cures quickly. Wait until the coat is completely dry before applying colour paint.
- Check the result: the Fine Primer Grey tone makes it easy to detect surface imperfections before painting; correct them if necessary and apply an additional coat.
Usage tips
Temperature and humidity
Always apply in a well-ventilated environment, at a temperature between 15 °C and 25 °C and with moderate humidity. Very low temperatures or high humidity can cause a grainy effect or poor adhesion.
Make the most of the fine nozzle for miniatures
The can includes two nozzles. For small miniatures or highly detailed pieces, the fine nozzle gives you better control over the flow and prevents raised details from being filled with excess primer. For large surfaces, the standard nozzle speeds up the work.
The perfect base for spotting errors
The neutral grey tone of Fine Primer Grey acts as an imperfection revealer: scratches, bubbles, mould lines or poorly sanded seams become visible once the piece is primed. Take advantage of this before painting to make corrections and achieve a professional finish.
Frequently asked questions
What types of paint is this primer compatible with?
Fine Primer Grey AK1010 is compatible with acrylic paints, enamels and extreme weathering products. Once the lacquer has cured, you can apply any AK Interactive range on top without adhesion problems or layer lifting.
Does it work on resin and 3D-printed plastic?
Yes. Fine Primer Grey adheres well to conventional plastic and metal, as well as to photopolymer resin and FDM filament. On resin parts, make sure to wash the piece thoroughly and sand it lightly to ensure maximum adhesion.
How long should you wait between priming and the first colour coat?
The synthetic lacquer of the AK1010 cures in a short time under normal conditions. In general, 20–30 minutes at room temperature is sufficient to apply the next coat, although waiting an hour guarantees a completely stable base.
Can it be used on both small and large surfaces?
Yes. The 400 ml format and the two included nozzles make the AK1010 a versatile spray for wargame miniatures as well as large-scale models or cosplay props. The fine nozzle is ideal for small pieces and the standard one for large surfaces.
Where can I buy this product?
Fine Primer Grey AK1010 is available from Feroca, official distributor of AK Interactive in Spain, both in their online shop and through their network of specialist stores.
Is it necessary to shake the can before each use?
Yes, it is essential. Before each session, shake the AK1010 can vigorously for at least one minute. This ensures that the pigments and propellant are well mixed and that the primer comes out with the correct consistency and coverage.
