What it is used for

This white primer is the ideal base coat before applying light paints, vivid colours or extreme lighting schemes. Its self-levelling formulation minimises brush marks and irregularities, leaving a uniform surface ready to paint. It is suitable for both fine-detail projects and larger pieces.

  • Scale models of military vehicles, aircraft and ships that require light colours or light-based camouflage schemes.
  • Wargame miniatures where zenithal highlighting or vibrant colours are sought without loss of saturation.
  • Dioramas and figures in resin, plastic or white metal.
  • 3D-printed pieces in PLA, resin or other polymers.
  • Cosplay accessories made from foam, thermoformed plastic or resin.
  • Special effects (SFX) and prosthetics where an adhesive base is needed before applying characterisation makeup or paint.

How to use it

  1. Piece preparation: clean the surface of dust, grease and mould release residue with water and neutral soap or isopropyl alcohol. Allow to dry completely.
  2. Shake well: shake the bottle vigorously for at least one minute to homogenise the pigment and binders in the formula.
  3. Thinning for airbrush: you can apply it directly or thin it slightly with distilled water or acrylic retarder if you need greater fluidity. Recommended pressure: 15–20 psi with a 0.3–0.4 mm needle.
  4. Brush application: apply thin, even coats taking advantage of the self-levelling property. Avoid overloading the brush to prevent obscuring detail.
  5. Drying: the coat becomes touch-dry within a few minutes. Wait at least 24 hours before sanding or moving on to colour coats.
  6. Cleaning: clean the airbrush or brush with water and soap as soon as you finish. Do not let the primer dry inside the equipment.

Tips for use

Thin coats to preserve detail

Always apply in light, crossing passes. A single thick coat can fill engravings and panel lines on fine-detail miniatures or scale models. With the airbrush, keep a distance of about 10–15 cm and move your hand steadily. If you need greater coverage, it is better to apply two thin coats than one dense one.

Ideal base for light colours and lighting techniques

The white colour of this primer maximises the luminosity of the colours applied on top, especially transparent or highly diluted acrylics. It is the perfect base for zenithal highlighting techniques, Non-Metallic Metal in warm tones or pastel colour schemes on figures and vehicles.

Compatibility with difficult surfaces

The 3GEN formula adheres well to plastic, resin, metal and foam without the need for additional priming. On EVA foam pieces for cosplay, apply a very thin coat and allow to dry before handling the piece, as the material is flexible and an overly thick coat could crack when bent.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to thin the primer before using it with an airbrush?

White Primer 100 ml 3GEN is formulated to work straight from the bottle in most airbrushes. If you find the viscosity is too high for your equipment or for working with very fine needles, you can add a small amount of distilled water and shake again. Start with a minimal thinning ratio and adjust based on the result.

How long do I need to wait before painting over it?

The surface becomes touch-dry within minutes, but to apply colour coats with complete confidence it is advisable to wait between 30 and 60 minutes. If you are going to sand the primer to refine the surface, observe the 24 hours indicated on the product so that the coat is fully cured.

Is it compatible with foam surfaces for cosplay?

Yes. White Primer 3GEN adheres to EVA foam and high-density craft foam. Apply very thin coats and allow each one to dry thoroughly. In highly flexible areas, consider reinforcing with an elastic sealer before priming to prevent the base coat from cracking with movement.

Can I apply it with a brush if I don't have an airbrush?

Yes. The self-levelling formulation of this primer reduces brush marks by spreading itself across the surface. Use a flat soft-hair brush, apply with long, even strokes and let the product work without going back over it excessively while it is still wet.

Does it work on 3D-printed resin pieces?

Yes, it is one of its most common applications. Before priming, clean the resin piece thoroughly with water and soap or isopropyl alcohol to remove any uncured resin residue. Once dry, apply White Primer 3GEN in thin coats. The result is a solid, uniform base that makes subsequent painting easier.
