AK11213 Red belongs to the Clear range by AK Interactive, a series of acrylic paints specifically formulated to maintain the transparency of the applied colour. Unlike a conventional opaque paint, this reference allows you to tint translucent surfaces — windows, headlights, cockpits, lenses — while preserving their transparent effect. It is part of the Standard 3GEN range by AK Interactive, available at Feroca as the official distributor in Spain.

What it is used for
AK11213 Red is designed for all modellers who need to modify the colour of translucent elements or create glazing effects over already painted surfaces, without sacrificing transparency or damaging previous layers. Its most common uses are:
- Tinting cockpits and aircraft cabins on scale models
- Colouring headlights, taillights and optics on military, civilian and science fiction vehicles
- Modifying the colour of windows on car, truck and train models
- Creating coloured glass effects on wargame miniatures (Warhammer, etc.)
- Applying glazes over metallic parts to achieve coloured reflections
- Altering the tone of already painted elements using thin transparent layers
- Translucent material effects on cosplay and SFX projects
- Representing gems, crystals and energy surfaces on figures and dioramas
How to use it
- Surface preparation: Make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of dust. For transparent plastic parts, priming is not necessary; for painted surfaces, ensure the base coat is fully cured.
- Shake the bottle: Shake the bottle thoroughly for at least 30 seconds before use to homogenise the pigment.
- Brush application: Apply thin, even coats. Transparency is controlled by layers: the more coats, the greater the colour saturation, without losing the translucent effect.
- Airbrush application: Thin with distilled water or AK Interactive acrylic thinner at 10–20% depending on the desired fluidity. Recommended pressure between 15 and 20 psi.
- Drying between coats: Allow each coat to dry for 15 to 30 minutes before applying the next one. Full cure in 24 hours.
- Cleaning: Clean brushes and the airbrush with water and soap immediately after use, before the paint dries.
Usage tips
Controlling transparency through layers
The key to the Clear range lies in the build-up of layers. A single coat gives a very subtle tint; three or four thin coats produce an intense Red that is still translucent. Avoid applying a thick coat all at once: you will lose the transparent effect and end up with an uneven finish. Always work in thin coats and allow drying time between them.
Glazes over metallics
AK11213 Red works excellently as a glaze over metallic paints. Applied over painted metal surfaces, it creates very realistic colour reflections, useful for representing emergency lights, indicator glass or energy elements on science fiction vehicles and wargame miniatures.
Full compatibility without risk
Being a water-based acrylic paint from the 3GEN range, AK11213 Red is compatible with any type of paint without reacting or lifting the underlying layers. You can use it over primers, acrylic paints, fully cured enamels or varnishes without any issue. If in doubt, always test on an inconspicuous area before applying to the finished model.
Frequently asked questions
Can it be applied directly onto transparent plastic without priming?
Yes. AK11213 Red is formulated to tint translucent surfaces such as the clear plastic used in scale models. No primer is needed: apply directly in thin coats to maintain the transparency of the material.
How many coats are needed to achieve an intense colour?
It depends on the effect you are looking for. One or two coats give a soft, very translucent tint. With three or four coats, Red gains saturation while maintaining transparency. If you apply more coats, the colour becomes more opaque, which can be useful for glazing over already painted surfaces.
Is it compatible with varnishes and topcoats?
Yes. AK11213 Red from the Clear range has universal compatibility. You can apply acrylic or water-based varnishes on top without any problem. If you are going to use solvent-based varnishes, make sure the paint layers are fully cured (minimum 24 hours).
Can it be used with an airbrush?
Absolutely. Thin AK11213 Red with distilled water or AK Interactive acrylic thinner between 10 and 20%, depending on the fluidity you need. Work at low-to-medium pressures (15–20 psi) and in thin passes to better control colour build-up.
Where can I buy this paint in Spain?
AK11213 Red is available at Feroca, the official AK Interactive distributor in Spain. You can purchase it directly from the Feroca online shop with shipping across Spain and Europe.
Is it suitable for painting gems and crystals on wargame miniatures?
It is one of its most common uses. AK11213 Red allows you to create the effect of gems, energy crystals and translucent magical surfaces on wargame miniatures with very convincing results. Apply over a white or metallic base to maximise the luminosity of the colour.
