What it is used for
Emerald is a colour with a strong and clean presence that fits a wide variety of projects. Its pure emerald green tone makes it ideal both as a base colour and as a solid colour layer on plastic, resin or metal surfaces.
- Military vehicles with camouflage schemes in vivid greens or tropical tones
- Wargame miniatures: robes, armour, gems and decorative details
- Dioramas with natural elements: vegetation, water, moss, stones
- Fantasy and science fiction figures with solid colour finishes
- Cosplay projects and props where an intense, opaque green is needed
- SFX effects on various surfaces as a chromatic base
How to use it
- Prepare the surface: apply a suitable primer (preferably black or grey) to improve adhesion and colour intensity.
- Shake the bottle well: before use, shake for 30–60 seconds to homogenise the pigment with the acrylic medium.
- Thin if necessary: for brush use, you can apply it straight or add a few drops of water or acrylic thinner. For airbrush, thin until you achieve a consistency similar to skimmed milk.
- Apply in thin coats: it is better to apply two or three thin coats than one thick coat. Wait 15 to 30 minutes between coats.
- Allow to dry: touch-dry time is quick (20–30 minutes). For a full cure, wait at least 24 hours before applying varnishes or washes.
- Clean your tools: clean the brush or airbrush with water or acrylic thinner immediately after use.
Tips for use
Get the most out of Emerald
For highlighting and NMM (Non-Metallic Metal) in green areas, combine Emerald as a mid-tone with darker colours in shadow areas and white or yellow at the highest light points. The result is very convincing volume without the need for metallic paint.
Airbrush: thinning is key
With an airbrush, a dilution of 30–40% with acrylic thinner is sufficient for most zenithal or stippling work. If you are doing pre-shading or colour modulation, work at low pressures (12–15 PSI) and apply several very thin passes.
Compatibility with other AK Interactive products
Emerald is fully compatible with the washes, filters and varnishes in the AK Interactive range. Always apply a satin or gloss varnish before washes to prevent them from penetrating unevenly into the surface.
Frequently asked questions
Is it necessary to thin the paint before using it with a brush?
Not always. Emerald has a consistency designed to be used straight from the bottle with a brush on most surfaces. If you notice the paint dragging too much or leaving brush marks, add a few drops of water to improve flow without losing coverage.
Can it be used with an airbrush without problems?
Yes. The Standard range from AK Interactive is formulated to be airbrush-compatible. You just need to thin it correctly, between 30 and 40%, with water or acrylic thinner. Clean the airbrush with water after each session.
How many coats are needed for good coverage?
With Emerald, in most cases two thin coats over primer are sufficient to achieve uniform and solid coverage. Over dark surfaces a third coat may be necessary.
Is it compatible with washes and varnishes?
Yes. Once dry, Emerald accepts AK Interactive washes, filters and varnishes without any issues. It is recommended to seal with a gloss or satin varnish before applying washes to better control the final result.
Where can I buy this paint?
Feroca is the official distributor of AK Interactive in Spain. You can purchase Emerald (AK11144) directly from the Feroca online store, with shipping across Spain and specialist support for modelling and painting.
How long does it take to dry completely?
Emerald is touch-dry in about 20–30 minutes under normal temperature and humidity conditions. For a full cure that can withstand handling, washes or varnishes without risk, it is recommended to wait 24 hours.
