What it is used for
Pear Green is a light green with a fruity, slightly yellowish tone that fits a wide variety of projects. It is a versatile colour for both base coats and intermediate highlights over darker greens.
- Scale model painting: vegetation, light green camouflage, military equipment and tarpaulins
- Wargame miniatures: clothing, belts, organic details or dyed leather
- Dioramas: representing plants, moss, dry grass or spring terrain
- Resin and plastic figures: light coats over medium and dark greens
- Cosplay and SFX: painting EVA foam, resin or thermoformed plastic pieces
- Naval and aeronautical modelling: runway markings, signage and auxiliary elements
How to use it
- Prepare the surface: apply a suitable primer to the piece (grey, white or black depending on the desired effect). AK Interactive spray primers are a direct and compatible option.
- Shake the bottle well: close the bottle and shake it for 20–30 seconds before use. The high pigmentation of the Standard range can settle over time.
- Thinning for brush: use Pear Green straight from the bottle or add a few drops of water or AK acrylic medium until you achieve a skimmed-milk consistency. Apply thin coats and allow to dry between them.
- Thinning for airbrush: thin between 20% and 40% with distilled water or AK acrylic thinner. Recommended pressure: 15–20 PSI with a 0.3–0.4 mm needle.
- Drying: touch-dry in 15–20 minutes. Fully cured in 24 hours. Do not rub the coat before it is completely dry.
- Cleaning: clean the brush or airbrush with water while the paint is still wet. If it has already dried, use isopropyl alcohol.
Usage tips
Highlighting and zenithal
Pear Green works very well as a light colour over medium greens. Apply the dark base colour, let it dry, then apply Pear Green in very thin, thinned coats over the raised areas. The result is natural volume without the need for complex blending.
Washes and filters
If you add a good amount of acrylic medium or water to Pear Green, you get a light green filter that is ideal for unifying areas of vegetation or giving a spring-like tone to textured surfaces. Apply it over a coat sealed with satin varnish for greater control.
Compatibility and mixing
Being a water-based acrylic paint from the Standard range, Pear Green is fully miscible with the rest of the AK Interactive range. You can mix it directly on the palette with other Standard colours to adjust the tone without losing the product's consistency or behaviour.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a primer before applying this paint?
Yes, a primer is recommended to ensure adhesion, especially on plastic, resin or metal. Pear Green covers well, but a primer base notably improves the durability and accuracy of the final colour.
Can I use this paint in an airbrush without any issues?
Yes. Pear Green is formulated to be compatible with airbrush. Thin it between 20% and 40% with distilled water or AK acrylic thinner until you achieve a fluid consistency. Work at low pressure (15–20 PSI) to obtain clean lines.
How many coats are needed for good coverage?
The AK Interactive Standard range has high pigmentation, so in most cases 2 thin coats are sufficient over white or grey primer. Over black primer it may need one more coat for the colour to be true.
Is this paint suitable for wargame miniatures?
Absolutely. Pear Green is a very valid option for wargame miniatures: it covers small areas well with a fine brush, allows for highlights, and lends itself to washes and zenithal work. It is part of Feroca's regular offering for modellers and wargamers.
How do I keep the bottle in good condition?
Close the bottle tightly after each use and store it upright, away from heat and direct sunlight. If the paint thickens over time, add a few drops of distilled water and shake well before use.
