What it is used for
The Green-Brown tone is an organic earth colour with a clear tactical and natural vocation. It fits into a wide range of projects where you need to represent dry vegetation, dark mud, aged wood or military uniforms from woodland and swampy environments. It is a very useful base and mixing colour in any palette.
- Base colour or transition layer on military vehicles from World War II and modern conflicts
- Representation of field uniforms, tactical gear and backpacks on scale figures
- Dead vegetation, moss and wet earth on diorama and wargame bases
- Aged wood, dark leather and straps on fantasy or historical miniatures (Warhammer and similar)
- Mud and dirt effects on off-road vehicles and aviation models in forest camouflage
- Finishes and details on cosplay pieces or SFX props that require organic textures
How to use it
- Surface preparation: make sure the piece is clean, dry and properly primed. A dark or neutral primer will enhance the depth of the Green-Brown.
- Shaking: shake the pot well for at least 30 seconds before opening. The AK Interactive Standard formula includes an agitation ball inside.
- Thinning: for brush application, you can apply it straight from the pot or thin it 10–20% with distilled water. For airbrush, thin it until you achieve a consistency similar to skimmed milk; start with a 20–30% dilution and adjust according to your equipment's pressure.
- Application: apply in thin coats and allow to dry between layers. Green-Brown covers well in 2–3 thin coats, much better than in a single thick coat.
- Drying: touch-dry time is approximately 15–20 minutes under normal conditions. For full curing before applying washes or varnishes, wait at least 1 hour.
- Cleaning: clean brushes and airbrush with warm water and soap while the paint is still wet. Once dry, you will need an acrylic thinner to remove any residue.
Usage tips
Colour mixing and transitions
Green-Brown is an excellent starting point for mixing. Adding a lighter tone from the Standard range gives you natural highlights for zenithal lighting on vegetation or earth. Mixed with darker colours, it becomes a very convincing organic shadow for wood or leather.
Weathering and ageing techniques
Use Green-Brown as an intermediate layer in chipping and weathering techniques: apply it over the primer and before the vehicle's final colour. When scratching the top layer, this tone will appear as a vegetal rust or primer underneath, giving a very natural reading of ageing.
Airbrush: pressure and distance control
With an airbrush, work at a pressure of between 12 and 18 PSI and keep the nozzle about 10–15 cm from the surface for base coats. For colour modulation or localised shading, reduce the pressure and move closer to the piece. The Standard range holds up well to thinning without losing adhesion.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a primer before applying this paint?
Yes, it is always recommended to prime the surface before using Green-Brown or any other paint from the AK Interactive Standard range. Primer improves the adhesion and durability of the paint, especially on plastic, resin and white metal. A dark primer also enhances the saturation of this tone.
Can it be used straight from the pot or does it need to be thinned?
For brush application you can use it straight from the pot or with minimal thinning. For airbrush it is best to thin it between 20 and 30% with distilled water or AK Interactive acrylic thinner to achieve the right flow without losing coverage.
How many coats are needed for good coverage?
Thanks to its high pigmentation, Green-Brown covers well in 2 thin coats. Applying a single thick coat can cause brush marks or cracking when drying. It is always preferable to work with thin layers and let each one dry before applying the next.
Is it compatible with washes and varnishes?
Yes. Once dry and cured, this paint accepts AK Interactive washes, filters and varnishes without any problem. If you are going to apply a solvent-based wash, it is advisable to seal the surface first with a gloss varnish to protect the base coat.
Where can I buy this paint in Spain?
Feroca is the official distributor of AK Interactive in Spain. You can purchase Green-Brown (AK11126) directly from the Feroca online store, with shipping throughout mainland Spain and guaranteed availability of the entire AK Interactive catalogue.
Is this paint suitable for wargame miniatures or only for scale models?
It is perfectly valid for both uses. The AK Interactive Standard range is designed for any type of modeller: from military vehicle and aircraft scale models to wargame miniatures such as Warhammer, as well as dioramas, historical figures, cosplay and special effects. Green-Brown is especially useful for bases, vegetation and organic elements in all these contexts.
