What it is used for

Light Brown is a versatile tone that appears in a wide variety of contexts within modelling and plastic arts. Its light brown shade fits naturally into military equipment, arid terrain, weathered wood and skin tones, among many other uses.

  • Military vehicle models: figure uniforms, field equipment, leather straps and holsters
  • Aircraft and vehicles: wooden interiors, aged panels and earthy dirt effects
  • Dioramas: arid ground, dry vegetation and sandy rocks
  • Wargame miniatures (infantry, cavalry, creatures): skin tones, leathers, linen clothing and desert sand
  • Historical and fantasy figures: cloaks, tunics, footwear and luggage
  • Cosplay and SFX: direct application on prepared surfaces to simulate aged leather, wood or skin

How to use it

  1. Surface preparation: apply a suitable primer first (preferably AK Interactive spray) to ensure adhesion and allow Light Brown to develop its full pigmentation potential.
  2. Shaking: shake the bottle well for at least 30 seconds before use. Standard acrylic paint can settle over time.
  3. Thinning: for brush application, the paint can be used straight from the bottle or with a few drops of water. For airbrush, thin it by 20–40% with distilled water or AK Interactive acrylic thinner until you achieve the desired flow.
  4. Application: apply in thin, successive coats. Allow each coat to dry (10–15 minutes under normal conditions) to avoid build-up and streaking.
  5. Finishing coats: once dry, you can apply AK Interactive matte, satin or gloss varnish depending on the final result you are looking for.
  6. Cleaning: clean brushes and airbrush with water while the paint is still fresh. If it has already dried, use AK Interactive acrylic solvent.

Usage tips

Thin coats for greater control

Always work with thin coats and allow them to dry thoroughly between applications. With Light Brown you will achieve smoother transitions and avoid losing detail on fine reliefs of miniatures or figures.

Mixing with other colours from the Standard range

Being a water-based acrylic, Light Brown mixes effortlessly with the rest of the AK Interactive Standard range colours. You can lighten it with Light Grey or Ivory for extreme highlights, or darken it by adding deeper earth tones for shadows and glazes.

Glazes and washes

Highly thinned (70–80% water or thinner), Light Brown works as an effective glaze over lighter surfaces to simulate dust, dirt or general weathering. You can also combine it with an AK Interactive wash medium to create a ready-to-use wash in shadow areas.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to prime before applying this paint?

Yes, it is recommended. Applying a primer beforehand improves adhesion and allows Light Brown (AK11100) to cover more evenly, especially over plastic, resin or metal. AK Interactive spray primers are the most convenient option and are available at Feroca.

Can I use this paint with an airbrush?

Yes. The AK Interactive Standard range is designed to work both by brush and airbrush. You just need to thin it a little more than usual, between 20 and 40% with distilled water or AK Interactive acrylic thinner, until you achieve the right flow for your airbrush.

How long does it take to dry?

Under normal temperature and humidity conditions, Light Brown AK11100 is touch dry in about 10–15 minutes. For subsequent coats or varnishing, wait at least 30 minutes and make sure the coat is completely dry.

Which thinner is compatible with it?

As it is a water-based acrylic paint, you can thin it with distilled water. For best results, especially for airbrushing or glazing, use AK Interactive acrylic thinner, which improves flow without reducing pigmentation or coverage.

Is it suitable for wargame miniatures?

Absolutely. The AK Interactive Standard range was developed with all types of modellers in mind, including wargame enthusiasts. Light Brown is particularly useful for skin tones, leathers, earth and equipment on fantasy, sci-fi or historical miniatures.

Where can I buy this paint in Spain?

You can purchase AK11100 Light Brown directly from Feroca, the official AK Interactive distributor in Spain, both through their online store and at authorised retail points.
