What it is used for

Offwhite plays a leading role in multiple techniques and disciplines. Its versatility makes it a staple that should not be missing from any palette:

• Base or light undercoat on scale military vehicles and aircraft, especially for desert or winter finishes.
• Highlights and zenithal shading on wargame miniatures to create natural light transitions without using pure white.
• Mixing with other colours in the Standard range to lighten tones without losing chromatic warmth.
• Painting historical figures: period uniforms, bandages, fabrics and light-coloured equipment.
• Dioramas and scenery: whitewashed walls, light snow, sun-weathered surfaces.
• Cosplay and SFX projects: preparation of light surfaces or very pale skin effects when mixed with flesh tones.

How to use it

1. Surface preparation: make sure the piece is clean, dry and properly primed. For dark surfaces, apply a light base coat first to avoid needing extra layers of Offwhite.
2. Shaking: shake the bottle well for at least 30 seconds before use. The high pigmentation of the Standard range requires thorough mixing of the pigment.
3. Thinning: for brush use, apply the paint straight from the bottle or thin it slightly with distilled water or acrylic medium. For airbrush, thin it to the consistency of skimmed milk.
4. Application: apply in thin, progressive layers. Offwhite covers very well, but several thin coats always give better results than a single thick one.
5. Drying: touch-dry time is 15–20 minutes under normal conditions. Allow to dry completely before applying additional layers or varnishes.
6. Cleaning: clean brushes and airbrush with water during work. If the paint has dried, use isopropyl alcohol or a dedicated acrylic cleaner.

Tips and tricks

Highlighting with Offwhite on miniatures

Instead of using pure white for the highest light points, progressively mix your miniature's base colour with Offwhite. You will achieve far more natural transitions and avoid the "plastic" effect that straight white can give. It is especially effective on clothing, light skin tones and stone-like surfaces.

Zenithal and pre-shading on scale models

Offwhite works excellently as an intermediate step in a zenithal scheme: after a dark base coat and before the modulation colours, a zenithal layer of Offwhite from above perfectly defines the light areas. This helps the finishing colours appear more translucent and expressive without losing depth.

Storing the bottle

Whites and very light colours tend to thicken faster if the bottle does not seal properly. Always clean the rim of the cap before closing and store the bottle upright in a cool place away from direct light. If the paint thickens over time, add a few drops of distilled water and shake well.
