Xylene/butanol-based solvent for cleaning tools and moulds and thinning epoxy resins. Transparent. 250 ml.

Epoxi Cleaner is a high-dissolving-power solvent formulated specifically for epoxy resin systems. Its xylene/butanol base makes it ideal for cleaning tools, brushes and moulds, as well as for thinning epoxy resins before spray or airbrush application. If you work with epoxy regularly, this is a workshop essential.

What it is used for

Epoxi Cleaner is designed for any process involving epoxy resin work, both during preparation and for subsequent clean-up. Its most common applications are:

  • Thinning mixed epoxy resins to reduce viscosity and facilitate spray or airbrush application.
  • Thinner for epoxy primers and coatings that require a more fluid consistency.
  • Cleaning brushes and spatulas saturated with uncured epoxy.
  • Cleaning and degreasing moulds before or after the moulding process.
  • Removing resin residues from work surfaces, tools and equipment.

How to use it

  1. As a thinner in epoxy systems: add the required amount of Epoxi Cleaner to the resin already mixed with its hardener and stir vigorously until the desired viscosity for spray or airbrush application is achieved.
  2. As a brush and tool cleaner: immerse the bristles in the product and scrub to dissolve uncured epoxy residues. Repeat if necessary. Always use in a ventilated area.
  3. As a mould cleaner: soak a clean cloth with Epoxi Cleaner and wipe the mould surface until all residues are removed. Allow to evaporate completely before reusing the mould or applying a Release agent.
  4. As a work surface cleaner: apply directly to the area with epoxy residues, leave to act for a few seconds, then remove with a cloth or scraper.
Safety warning: Epoxi Cleaner is flammable and harmful if inhaled or in prolonged contact with skin. Always work in well-ventilated spaces, keep away from flames and heat sources, and wear gloves and eye protection. Keep the container tightly closed when not in use. Product residues are considered hazardous waste: do not pour down the drain or onto the ground. Keep out of reach of children.

Usage tips

Thinning: how much to add without compromising the cure

When using Epoxi Cleaner as a thinner, add the minimum amount needed to achieve the fluidity you require. Excess solvent in the mix can alter the mechanical properties of the cured resin and extend the curing time. Start with low ratios (5–10% by weight of the mixture) and adjust based on results.

Cleaning: act before the epoxy cures

Epoxi Cleaner is highly effective on uncured resin or resin in the initial gel phase. Once the resin has fully cured, chemical cleaning becomes much more difficult. Clean tools immediately after use to save product and effort. If the resin has already partially cured, apply the solvent and allow it to act for several minutes before scrubbing.

Ventilation and PPE in the workshop

Xylene and butanol are components with notable volatility. Always work with forced ventilation or outdoors. Wear nitrile gloves (at least 0.1 mm thick) and safety goggles. For prolonged exposure, consider a respirator with an organic vapour filter. Do not use the product near open flames, sparks or exposed electrical heating elements.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be used to clean other types of resin, such as polyester or polyurethane?

Epoxi Cleaner is formulated specifically for epoxy systems. For polyester resins it may prove ineffective. If you need a more general-purpose solvent, Acetone AC-1 or Nafta are alternatives for other resin types.

Can I use it to clean silicone moulds?

It is not the recommended option. Xylene/butanol-based solvents can deteriorate some types of silicone over time. For cleaning silicone moulds, isopropyl alcohol 99.9% is a safer and more compatible option.

Can I use this solvent to thin Food Safe epoxy resin?

No. If you are working with resins intended for food contact, such as EpoFood, you must not add any solvent that is not specifically compatible with that application. Epoxi Cleaner is not suitable for use in food-contact systems.

Does it work on fully cured epoxy resin?

Its effectiveness on fully cured resin is very limited. Epoxi Cleaner works best on uncured resin or resin in the gel phase. If you need to polish or work on an already hardened epoxy surface, PolarShine polishing compounds are the right tool.

How much product do I need to clean a tool or a mould?

It depends on the size and the amount of resin accumulated. For cleaning brushes and small tools, a few millilitres are sufficient. For medium-sized moulds, a well-soaked cloth is usually enough. The 250 ml format is suitable for regular workshop use.

Is it necessary to let the solvent evaporate before using the mould?

Yes, it is essential. If you apply resin onto a mould that still has solvent residues, you may affect the resin's cure or cause surface defects. Allow the Epoxi Cleaner to evaporate completely, in a ventilated area, before applying a Release agent or pouring the resin.

How should I store and dispose of the product?

Store in a cool, dry place away from heat sources and ignition, with the container tightly closed. Epoxi Cleaner residues are hazardous waste: do not pour them down the drain or onto the ground. Take residues to an authorised chemical waste collection point.

Can I use other solvents instead?

For general cleaning of tools with uncured epoxy, Acetone AC-1 can also be effective, although it has higher volatility. Epoxi Cleaner offers greater epoxy-specific dissolving power thanks to its xylene/butanol formulation, making it more effective for demanding cleaning tasks.
