What it is used for

The round eyeliner has the advantage over the flat one that the fine tip can rotate freely to trace curves and circumferences without lifting the brush. This makes it ideal for tracing capillaries, superficial veins, individual pores and any detail that follows a curved path.

  • Tracing of capillaries and superficial veins in film and TV characterizations
  • Painting of freckles, spots and details of skin pigmentation
  • Application of color in specific points of silicone prosthesis
  • Detail work on scars and artificial wounds
  • Iris delineation and ocular effects in eye prostheses

How to use it

  1. Load the brush with a minimum amount of paint and distribute the excess on the palette.
  2. Hold the brush close to the ferrule for greater tip control.
  3. Apply with fluid strokes, letting the tip guide the stroke without excessive pressure.
  4. For isolated points, press and remove without dragging.
  5. Clean the tip frequently during work to maintain its shape.

Use Tips

Clamping close to the ferrule

The closer you hold the brush to the ferrule, the more control you have over the tip and the less the line shakes. For the finest details, move your fingers until they almost touch the ferrule.

Minimum load for fine lines

A round fine tip brush with too much product produces thick, irregular lines. Load only the tip and remove excess on the palette before tracing. With little product, the thickness of the line is controlled by the pressure and speed of the stroke.

Frequently asked questions

What differentiates 309 from 101 (fine eyeliner)?

The 101 is an extra fine eyeliner with a very narrow tip, designed for the thinnest lines possible. The 309 is a round eyeliner with a little more body at the tip, which gives it more load capacity and allows you to draw lines of variable thickness depending on the pressure applied. For very thin single thickness lines, 101; for strokes with varying thickness, the 309.

Is it compatible with alcohol-based paints for capillary tracing?

Yes. Alcohol-based paints have the right viscosity and color intensity to trace realistic capillaries. The 309, with its fine tip, is precise and easy to clean with isopropyl alcohol between colors.

Can 309 be used to touch up prostheses already placed on the actor?

Yes. It is one of its most common uses on set: color retouching, tone corrections and last-minute details on already applied prosthetics. Its precision reduces touch-up time and minimizes the risk of staining adjacent areas.
