What it's used for

Designed to temporarily and realistically alter facial features. The brown shade makes it ideal for dark to medium skin tones and works under any type of character makeup.

  • Broken, crooked or swollen noses for facial trauma effects
  • Nose or chin extensions in character transformation
  • Bullet wounds, abrasions and cuts with volume and relief
  • Keloid or irregular scars in various stages of healing
  • Prosthetic edge blending: filling and feathering latex-to-skin transitions
  • Trauma training and mass casualty simulation exercises
  • Halloween, cosplay and theatrical productions

How to use

  1. Warm a small amount of wax between your fingers for 20-30 seconds until pliable.
  2. Shape the desired form and place it on the target area.
  3. Apply Spirit Gum to clean, dry skin, allow to become tacky, then press the wax firmly in place.
  4. Blend the edges with a finger or spatula until the transition with the skin is seamless.
  5. If the wax feels too sticky, neutralise with Quick Cleanse or a few drops of baby oil.
  6. Seal edges with Liquid Latex, apply setting powder and finish with Castor Sealer before applying makeup.
  7. Texture the surface with a stipple sponge to mimic skin pores.
  8. Remove with a spatula and clean residue with Spirit Gum Remover, Quick Cleanse or soap and water.

Tips for use

Heat is the key

Nose & Scar Wax responds well to body heat. If the wax is too stiff in a cold environment, warm it between your palms before modelling. If it becomes too soft under hot set lights, apply it quickly and let it settle for a few seconds before blending the edges.

Always seal before applying makeup

Without sealing, the wax can absorb makeup and lose its appearance. Always apply a thin coat of Liquid Latex over the entire piece, let it dry, dust with translucent powder and finish with Castor Sealer. This waterproofs the surface and provides a perfect base for any character makeup.

Combine with wound makeup

For more impactful results, add purple and red makeup tones around the wax to simulate bruising and trauma, and apply Thick Blood or Fresh Scab inside the wound to make it look active.

Frequently asked questions

Does it adhere on its own or does it need an adhesive?

It requires Spirit Gum as an adhesive base. Apply it to the skin, wait for it to become tacky, then press the wax firmly. The edges blend directly onto the skin without additional adhesive.

How long does the application last on set?

When properly sealed and made up, it can last several hours. Intense heat from set lights and perspiration are the main challenges — in very warm environments, keep spare wax handy for touch-ups.

What is the difference between Fair and Brown?

The Fair shade has a translucent base designed to blend with dark to medium skin tones. The Brown shade is formulated for darker skin tones. Both share the same texture and behaviour — the only difference is the base pigment.

Is it compatible with any character makeup?

Yes. Once sealed with latex and Castor Sealer, the surface accepts cream, alcohol-activated and powder makeups. It is not recommended to apply makeup directly on unsealed wax.

Can it be used in medical training or disaster simulation?

Yes. This is one of its most common uses. Nose & Scar Wax allows realistic facial wounds to be created quickly for triage exercises, disaster drills and trauma training.
