UltraColor is Feroca's range of translucent dyes for colouring polyester, epoxy and polyurethane resins with vivid, deep colour effects. They come in 15 g jars with an integrated dropper, allowing precise dose control and making workshop use easier. Their high dispersion capacity ensures uniform colouring with minimal amounts of product, without altering the mechanical properties or the cure of the base resin.

What it is used for

UltraColor is designed to add translucent colour to cast or laminated resin parts. It is particularly effective with transparent or translucent resins, where the pigment displays its full visual potential. It can also be combined with metallic effect powders for more complex finishes.

How to use it

  1. Prepare the base resin according to the manufacturer's instructions (mix with catalyst or hardener in the indicated ratios).
  2. Add UltraColor to the resin before making the final mix. Start with a small amount: a few drops are usually enough to achieve an intense colour.
  3. Mix thoroughly until you get a uniform, streak-free colour. The high dispersion of the dye makes integration easy.
  4. Adjust the intensity by adding more dye drop by drop until you reach the desired shade. Bear in mind that the resin cures slightly darker than in its liquid state.
  5. Pour or apply the coloured resin into the mould or onto the work surface as normal.
  6. Allow to cure according to the times indicated for the resin used. Do not shorten the curing time.
  7. After curing, you can combine the effect with an epoxy top coat for a glossy, protected surface finish.

Usage tips

Dosing: less is more

The jar's dropper allows very precise control. One or two drops per 100 g of resin is already enough to get a visible colour. If you want a more saturated shade, add drop by drop, blending the mix between each addition. Exceeding the recommended amount of dye can reduce transparency or interfere with the cure of some resins, especially epoxies that are very sensitive to additives.

Test the colour before the final casting

The colour in liquid state does not always match the final cured result. Always do a small test in a plastic cup with a minimal amount of coloured resin and let it cure before committing to the final piece. Also keep in mind that thicker layers intensify the colour significantly.

Combinations and advanced effects

UltraColor is compatible with metallic powders and mica powders to create finishes with depth and metallic shimmer within the resin mass. You can mix two UltraColor colours to obtain intermediate shades, but always do this in the already prepared resin, not in the jar. For realistic liquid effects or to simulate coloured water, use it together with Ferpol 1973 transparent resin or with high-clarity epoxy resins.

Frequently asked questions

How much dye should I add to the resin?

It depends on the colour intensity you are looking for. As a starting point, 1–3 drops per 100 g of resin already gives you a visible, translucent colour effect. For more saturated shades, add drop by drop. UltraColor has excellent dispersion, so you don't need large amounts for a striking result.

Are these pigments compatible with all types of resins?

UltraColor is compatible with polyester, epoxy and polyurethane resins. It is not recommended for use in silicones, neither tin nor platinum, as liquid dyes of this type can interfere with the silicone cure or remain trapped without dispersing correctly.

Does the dye affect the cure of the resin?

When used at the recommended doses, no. UltraColor is formulated not to interfere with the curing process of compatible resins. Excess dye can affect the cure or reduce the final transparency, so it is important not to overdose.

Can an opaque effect be achieved with these pigments?

UltraColor is a translucent dye, not an opaque pigment. If you increase the dose significantly you can reduce transparency, but the result will not be a solid, covering white or black. For opaque finishes, there are specific full-coverage pigments that are better suited for that purpose.

Can colours be mixed together?

Yes. You can mix two or more colours from the UltraColor range to obtain intermediate or custom shades. Always do this inside the already prepared resin and not directly in the jars. Mix thoroughly until the colour is completely uniform before pouring.

Is the colour I see in liquid the same as after curing?

Not always. Resins in liquid state may appear lighter or with a slightly different hue than the cured result. Also, thicker layers intensify the colour. We recommend always doing a small-scale test before working on the final piece.

Is it compatible with metallic or mica powders?

Yes. UltraColor can be combined perfectly with metallic powders or mica powders to achieve more complex effects: translucent colour with metallic sparkle, pearlescent finishes or depth effects. Mix both components into the already prepared resin before pouring.

Does it work with transparent resins to simulate liquids or water effects?

It is one of its most common applications. UltraColor combined with Ferpol 1973 transparent resin or with transparent epoxy resins allows you to simulate coloured liquids, fictional drinks for shop displays or audiovisual production, and water effects in scale models. The key is to dose precisely to maintain the translucency that gives the effect its realism.
