What it is used for

Putrid Green Wash is designed to add shadows and depth over green tones and vegetation, as well as on green-skinned creatures and naturalistic surfaces. Its fluid viscosity allows the product to flow naturally into the lowest parts of the surface, doing the work in a controlled and effortless way. It is particularly effective in the following contexts:

  • Shading vegetation elements such as bushes, leaves, grass, vines and miniature bases with naturalistic themes
  • General shading of green-skinned wargame miniatures such as orcs, goblins, trolls and alien creatures, accentuating muscles and joints
  • Inking fantasy and sci-fi figures set in natural environments such as jungles, forests and swamps
  • Adding depth to alien skins, greenish hides and organic textures in sci-fi or horror miniatures
  • Dioramas and bases with lush or decayed vegetation where the greenish tone enhances the natural ambient effect
  • Cosplay and SFX applications to create visual depth on creature masks, foam accessories and resin elements with organic themes

How to use it

  1. Shake the bottle well: before use, shake the bottle for 30–60 seconds to homogenise the pigment with the acrylic medium.
  2. Apply with a fine brush: load a fine or medium-tipped brush and deposit the wash directly onto the area to be treated (recesses, crevices, joints). For general shading, spread it over the entire piece with a soft flat brush.
  3. Let it flow and work: gravity and surface tension carry the product into the details. If excess remains on flat areas, remove it with a clean, slightly damp brush before it dries.
  4. Drying time: allow to dry completely at room temperature (approximately 20–30 minutes depending on the amount applied and ambient conditions).
  5. Cleaning: clean the brush with running water immediately after use. If the product has dried on the brush, use an acrylic brush cleaner.

Tips and tricks

Control the amount of product

Overloading the brush can cause unwanted stains on flat areas and make corrections difficult. Work with small amounts and build up the effect progressively, especially when applying the wash over large surfaces with few details.

Combine with other tones for advanced effects

Putrid Green works particularly well in combination with darker or neutral washes in transition areas. Apply a darker tone first in the deepest parts and use Putrid Green in the intermediate areas to simulate the reflection of a warm, organic ambient light, very common in jungle, forest or naturalistic fantasy settings.

Temperature and humidity matter

In very humid or cold environments the drying time increases. In very dry or hot environments the wash may dry before it has had time to flow correctly into the details. Work in ventilated spaces at a moderate temperature and, if necessary, add a few drops of distilled water to adjust the fluidity without altering the formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is it necessary to apply varnish before using a wash?

It is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended. Applying a satin or gloss varnish before Putrid Green Wash helps the product flow into the recesses without being absorbed by the base layer, and makes it easy to remove any excess before it dries without damaging the underlying paint.

Can I thin the wash with water if it seems too heavy?

Yes. Since Putrid Green Wash is water-based acrylic, it can be thinned with distilled water. Add a few drops directly onto the brush or onto a palette and mix before applying. Avoid adding water directly to the bottle to prevent altering the formulation of the remaining product.

Can it be applied over any type of base paint?

Putrid Green Wash is compatible with water-based acrylic paints. To use it over lacquers or enamels, make sure the base layer is fully cured and, preferably, protect it with a varnish before applying the wash.

Is it suitable for wargame miniatures as well as scale models?

Yes, it is one of its most common uses. Putrid Green Wash works perfectly on 28 mm or larger miniatures, accentuating folds, armour textures and shadowed areas. Its verdant tone fits especially well with fantasy, sci-fi or nature-themed miniatures.

Where can I buy this product in Spain?

Putrid Green Wash AK19311 is available at Feroca, the official distributor of AK Interactive in Spain. You can purchase it directly from the Feroca online store with shipping throughout Spain and Portugal.

How long does it take to dry?

Putrid Green Wash dries to the touch in approximately 20–30 minutes under normal temperature and humidity conditions. Before applying additional layers or the final protective varnish, it is advisable to wait at least 30–40 minutes to ensure the product has cured properly.
