What it is used for
Camouflage Green is a reference tone in military modelling and miniature painting. Its highly pigmented acrylic formula makes it suitable for both base coats and final colour layers, with excellent adhesion over primer and on plastic, resin or metal.
- Scale military vehicle painting: tanks, half-tracks, trucks and armoured vehicles with green camouflage schemes.
- Wargame miniatures: infantry, vehicles and tactical equipment in 28 mm, 15 mm and similar scales.
- Dioramas: painted vegetation, military structures, terrain and environmental elements.
- Military aircraft with green camouflage liveries from different historical periods.
- Cosplay or SFX accessories and props that require a convincing camouflage green finish.
- Resin or metal figures in civilian or fantasy modelling projects where the colour fits thematically.
How to use it
- Surface preparation: make sure the piece is clean, dry and free of grease. Apply a compatible primer coat (preferably from AK Interactive) to improve adhesion and colour uniformity.
- Shaking: shake the bottle well for at least 30 seconds before opening. The high pigmentation can cause sedimentation if the product has not been used for some time.
- Thinning: for brush use, you can apply the paint straight from the bottle or thin it slightly with distilled water. For airbrush, adjust the dilution until you achieve a consistency similar to skimmed milk; start with a 1:1 ratio and adjust according to your equipment.
- Application: apply in thin layers and allow to dry between coats. Two or three coats are usually enough for solid coverage of Camouflage Green.
- Drying: touch-dry occurs in approximately 15–20 minutes at room temperature. To continue with washes, filters or varnishes, wait at least 30–60 minutes.
- Cleaning: clean the brush or airbrush with water and soap immediately after use. Once dry, the paint is water-resistant.
Tips and tricks
Take advantage of the high pigmentation for solid base coats
The AK Interactive Standard range is formulated with a high pigment concentration, which means that Camouflage Green covers effectively in just a few coats. If you thin it heavily, you can also use it as a glaze to modulate the tone over a lighter previous layer.
Combine it with shading and highlighting techniques
Camouflage Green works very well as a base colour over which to apply dark washes in recessed areas and highlights on edges and raised details. For light accents, mix directly on the palette with a small amount of a lighter tone from the AK Interactive range until you reach the desired shade without losing chromatic consistency.
Control of the final finish
The finish can vary between satin and matte depending on the dilution and the number of coats applied. If you need a pure matte finish for a military vehicle or an infantry miniature, apply an AK Interactive matte varnish once the paint is dry. If you are looking for a slight satin finish before applying a wash, skip the intermediate varnish or use a satin one.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to thin the paint before using it with an airbrush?
Yes. Although Camouflage Green (AK11156) has good base fluidity, for airbrush use it is advisable to thin it with distilled water or AK Interactive acrylic thinner until you achieve a fluid consistency. A recommended starting ratio is 1:1, although this will depend on the pressure and type of airbrush you use.
What surfaces can this paint be applied to?
Camouflage Green adheres well to plastic, resin, metal and polystyrene, as long as the surface has been properly primed. For best results, use an AK Interactive primer suitable for the base material.
Is it compatible with AK Interactive washes and effect products?
Yes. Once dry and protected with a coat of satin or semi-matte varnish, Camouflage Green is an excellent base for applying washes, filters, pigments and other AK Interactive products without risking lifting the colour layer.
How long does it take to dry between coats?
Under normal temperature and humidity conditions, touch-dry occurs in approximately 15–20 minutes. To apply a second coat or continue with the painting process (washes, varnishes), it is recommended to wait between 30 and 60 minutes to ensure the previous coat is properly cured.
Where can I buy this paint?
Camouflage Green (AK11156) is available at Feroca, the official AK Interactive distributor in Spain. You can purchase it directly from the Feroca online store with shipping to mainland Spain and other destinations.
Can I mix this paint with other colours from the range to create new shades?
Yes. Paints from the AK Interactive Standard range are fully miscible with each other. You can mix Camouflage Green with other colours from the same range on the palette to obtain tone variations, lighten or darken the colour, and create transitions using zenithal or Non-Metallic Metal techniques.
