Materials to make ice with food-grade silicona
To make ice molds with food-grade silicona you'll need a few essential materials:
-
Silicona Easyl 940-FDA Pink. It's a platinum silicona with Shore A 40 hardness, very easy to use and suitable for making molds for different foods, strictly following the usage instructions. It has very good heat resistance and negligible shrinkage. This silicona has a very low viscosity, which means it flows very well when making the mold and leaves virtually no bubbles in it. It's perfect for making all kinds of molds: for ice, sweets, candies…
-
Desmoldeante Acmos. To protect the silicona and prevent contamination.
-
Pieces that you're going to copy to make your silicona mold. It can be whichever one you like best. Let your imagination run wild!
-
Foam board. To create a structure around the piece so the mixture doesn't spill out and is completely resistant.
-
Hot silicona gun. To glue the foam board to the pieces so you get a well-consolidated structure, allowing you to pour the right amount of silicona without it spilling out.
Step by step to create ice with food-grade silicona
1. Glue the pieces you've chosen

To start making our ice mold, you need to build a solid structure with the foam board so the liquid doesn't spill out, and then glue the pieces you've chosen to give shape to your ice.
For the mold we're going to use, as mentioned above, silicona Easyl 940-FD Pink, although you can also use the Easyl 925 FDA- Azul- Silicona- Alimentaria, which is also suitable for this same process. In addition, at Feroca you can find siliconas for molds of different types, so you can carry out almost any molding job.
So, with the food-grade silicona we've chosen for these molds, we have part A and part B. It's essential that the measurements of both parts are the same to avoid ending up with a faulty mold. To do this, follow the recommendations on the packaging to avoid mistakes, or if you have more questions, ask us, we'll be happy to help.
Once you have both parts ready, mix them together.
2. Pour the silicona into the formwork
To protect the originals from the silicona and prevent contamination, use the Desmoldeante Acmos. Spray a little over the entire surface, trying to reach every nook and cranny.
Once this step is done, go ahead and pour the silicona from a height of about 30 cm, pouring a thin stream to break any bubbles that may form.

3. Wait for the silicona to cure and remove it from the formwork

Once the previous step is complete, the curing time is 3 hours.
Once the silicona has cured, remove it from the formwork, take out the pieces and wash it thoroughly.
Before using it, you need to bake the mold for 4 hours at a temperature of 100°C. Then, let it cool and wash the mold cavity thoroughly with dish soap. This will ensure it's fully cured and won't become contaminated.
4. Test the mold

When it's completely ready, fill it with water, chocolate or any liquid and put it in the freezer. A few hours later the contents of your molds will be ready to enjoy.
With summer here, you can make all kinds of ice thanks to silicona molds: to make your get-togethers, parties or everyday drinks more fun. Let your imagination run wild and enjoy creating the most cheerful ice of the summer.
