In previous articles we talked about how to make a torso mold for Halloween. In today's article, we'll talk about how to make a body mold with alginato.
Alginato molds have a huge number of uses — for example, as we've already mentioned, creating a torso mold for Halloween. You'll be able to make all kinds of spine-chilling creations that will leave your neighbors speechless. You can use alginato molds both for outdoor garden decoration and to wear yourself and scare everyone you run into.
That said, alginato molds aren't limited to just one use — they can also be used to make mannequins or decorate shop windows. Alginato body molds are perfect for creating all kinds of sculptures, which you can use as decoration in your business or home.
If you run a costume shop, alginato molds are doubly useful — not only can they be used as window display decorations, but also to customize costumes for sale or rental.
And what about cosplay enthusiasts? Well, alginato body molds are also ideal for making your own cosplays.
In this article you'll find a guide and a video tutorial showing you the alginato mold process step by step:
Alginato: perfect for making a body mold
When working with alginato it's important to know that there is fast-setting alginato and slow-setting alginato. The slow-setting type gives you more working time, making it perfect for those of you who haven't worked with this material before. Those of you who have already gotten your feet wet with alginato can try the fast-setting version.
At Feroca, we offer a range of alginato that is optimal for skin contact. Ideal for creating body molds without any issues during the process or when demolding. However, one thing that is important to keep in mind is that the hair area must be protected.
Hair needs to be covered with a bald cap so that alginato can be applied over it to create your body mold, while a little bit of petroleum jelly is all you need for body hair on the rest of the body.
To ensure the bald cap is completely sealed, at Feroca we sell special skin adhesives. With this adhesive you can stick the edges of the bald cap to the skin so everything lies flat with no irregularities.
If you're going to work with alginato on a person, you should also protect the earring area with clay, so that no product gets in and everything is properly sealed.
How to make an alginato body mold
1. Material preparation: to prepare the alginato you need to add one part alginato to every two parts water. However, the proportions can vary depending on the consistency you're looking for, and at Feroca we encourage you to experiment and try things out.
For alginato body molds it's best to have a thick consistency, so it's preferable to use a little more product than water in order to work with it properly.
2. Start with the back first: whenever we talk about creating a mold using a person, it's recommended to start with the back, as it generally requires less product compared to the front. Once you have the right consistency, start applying the alginato to create your alginato body mold.

3. Counter-mold: the best way to make an alginato body mold is by creating a counter-mold. All you'll need for this are plaster bandages and hot water. Simply dip the bandages in the water and place them over the areas covered with alginato.
A tip from Feroca is to use hot water — this way the bandages set faster and you'll have everything ready in less time.
4. Repeat the process on the front: with the mold and counter-mold of the back done, it's time to create the alginato body mold on the front. You just need to prepare the mixture again (this time in a larger quantity) and apply it to the front to achieve a perfect alginato body mold.
For the face area, if you want the alginato mold to have greater expressiveness, you can ask your model to smile or make a specific expression.
At Feroca we recommend that if you're applying alginato with someone, talk to them so they feel at ease, as the process can sometimes feel overwhelming. So, agree on some signals in advance so that if the person feels uncomfortable or has trouble breathing, you can remove the alginato immediately.
It's also very important to protect the nose area so that the product doesn't enter the nasal passages and make it difficult for the person to breathe while you're making the alginato body mold.
Once you've applied the alginato to the front, it's time to make the counter-mold.

5. Final result: finally, the moment you've been waiting for arrives — being able to demold the mold and see the final result. If you're working with a person, ask them to make facial expressions to help open up the mold more quickly.
With the alginato mold demolded, you can make the copy using Monster Clay a type of clay we offer at Feroca that is ideal for casting. Apply it with a brush over the mold and you're done!

You can create your alginato body mold on whatever surface you like, or you can even build your own structure from scratch and use it as a decorative element. The great thing about alginato is that it's very versatile and allows you to carry out all kinds of body mold creations.
