What it's used for
Sigma Bond is designed to safely bond wigs, lacefronts, toupees, hairpieces and any hair postiches directly onto skin. Its acrylic formula makes it suitable for both short sessions and extended wear, and it is especially useful when the user applies the adhesive without assistance.
- Securing wigs and lacefronts in theatre, film and television
- Bonding toupees and hair hairpieces
- Introductory FX makeup requiring a hairpiece adhesive
- Self-applications in stage productions or personal character work
- Situations where a firm but reversible hold is needed
How to use it
- Clean and degrease the area of skin where the adhesive will be applied. The skin must be dry and free of creams or oils.
- Apply a thin, even layer of Sigma Bond onto the lace or directly onto the skin, according to your preferred method.
- Allow to dry slightly (tacky) for 20–30 seconds, until the adhesive loses its wet sheen but remains sticky to the touch.
- Carefully position the hairpiece or lacefront over the area and press firmly for a few seconds to ensure adhesion.
- Check the edges of the lace and apply additional pressure if necessary for a clean, invisible finish.
- To remove, apply a compatible remover (such as Telesis 8 Thinner or a professional makeup remover) along the edges and allow it to work before gently lifting the lace without pulling.
Usage tips
Skin preparation
Clean, well-prepared skin makes all the difference to the hold. Use a toner or diluted isopropyl alcohol to remove any traces of sweat, sebum or cosmetic product before applying the adhesive. Avoid any moisturiser on the bonding area.
Managing dry time
The tacky point is key: if you bond too soon the adhesive slips; if you wait too long it loses tack. In humid environments the drying time is slightly longer. Practise on the back of your hand to get familiar with the product's behaviour before working directly on a client.
Removal without damaging skin or lace
Do not remove the hairpiece dry or with a sharp tug — the lace can be damaged and the skin irritated. Apply remover with a fine brush underneath the edge of the lacefront and wait for the adhesive to dissolve before lifting. Keep the lace in good condition for multiple uses.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to use this adhesive directly on skin?
Yes. Sigma Bond is formulated for use on skin in hairpiece and makeup applications. As with any cosmetic adhesive, a patch test on a small area 24 hours beforehand is recommended for users with sensitive skin.
How long does the hold last?
Duration depends on the type of activity, ambient temperature and perspiration level. Under normal stage or character work conditions, Sigma Bond provides a firm hold throughout an entire working session. For intense physical activity or very warm climates, hold can be reinforced by applying an additional coat.
What remover should I use to remove it?
Sigma Bond is removed with Telesis Super Solv or a professional makeup remover compatible with acrylic adhesives. Apply the remover along the edges of the lace, allow it to work for a few seconds and lift carefully. Avoid using pure isopropyl alcohol as the sole remover, as it may be insufficient and harsh on skin.
Can it be used on silicone or foam latex prosthetics?
Sigma Bond is designed primarily for hair hairpieces. For bonding FX silicone prosthetics, specific adhesives such as PROTAC or Telesis 8 Adhesivo de Silicona are recommended, as they are formulated for those surfaces.
Is it suitable for self-application without the help of a professional?
Yes, this is precisely one of its key strengths. The Sigma Bond formula is designed so that anyone can apply it without prior experience in professional makeup. The working time is generous enough to position the hairpiece calmly before the adhesive sets.
Is there a difference between this adhesive and a silicone-based hairpiece adhesive?
Yes. Acrylic adhesives like Sigma Bond are easier to apply, dry faster and are removed with common removers. Silicone adhesives, such as Telesis 8, offer greater flexibility and compatibility with silicone surfaces, but require specific thinners and a bit more practice. For getting started with hairpieces, Sigma Bond is the most accessible option.
How should the product be stored?
Store Sigma Bond with the cap tightly closed, in a cool place away from heat sources or direct sunlight. Once opened, close the container securely after each use to prevent the adhesive from thickening or forming a skin inside the bottle.
Can I use this adhesive for FX makeup or facial prosthetics?
For full FX makeup with facial prosthetics, a specific adhesive such as PROTAC is more appropriate. Sigma Bond is optimised for hair hairpieces; outside that application, performance may not be optimal.
